Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel Review

How to get it
8 oz Can be purchased at Whole foods for $7-$8
I purchase from http://www.vitacost.com for $4.20 ( I buy like 8-10 bottles at a time with a few oils to get free shipping)

If Kinky Curly Curling Custard is my first love, then Kiss My Face Upper Management Gel is my O.P.P ( as in the song from Naughty By Nature).  When I am stepping out on my main squeeze it is almost always with this gel. It has the consistency of a normal slimy gel and smells like grapefruit (light scent that will not interfere with perfume) The look I get is almost identical to KCCC. So why do I like this so much?  Aside from the fact that my curls look amazing it plays well with others. I have used this gel with countless leave-in conditioners and it has worked with each and everyone of them.  As I have stated before I love variety and I enjoy experimenting with different products and this gel allows me to do that.  KCCC only works with other KC line products.  But this gel does not mind sharing the spotlight with other brands so for that reason I will always keep this in my go to product stash.. The only con to this product is I can't get 3+ day hair. Its great for 1 or 2 day hair and then you start over. I do follow the same exact steps with this as I do when I do my wash and go style with KCCC. I co-wash, leave-in condition, shake vigorously, apply gel in 6 sections and shake vigorously and I'm  done. Because the price tag is very low it definitely worth giving it a try. And that is what's Nu today.

Hair styled with Kiss my face Upper Management Gel and pulled back on the sides with a headband ( my hair is so thick you cant even see the headband ;D

My Kinky Curly Product Line Review

My Kinky Curly Stash

They say you never forget your first love. I have to agree. The Kinky
Curly products were the first products I used after I did the big
chop on Aug 2,2011. When I saw and felt how great the products worked
for my hair it was love at first sight. I think it only fitting that my
first product review be done on my first love. Although I do stray from
"my lover" from time to time I always go running right back. I will go
into why I love each product but let me start by saying different
products work on different people's hair in different ways. This review
is how it works on my very very thick 4a curl pattern hair. It is also
important to note that these products can and will enhance your curl
pattern but they will not change your curl pattern. Always follow the
directions printed on the product.

Please visit http://kinky-curly.com to see the list of ingredients or
to order online. You can also purchase these products at some Target
stores and at Whole Foods (I purchase mine at Whole Foods)

Kinky Curly Come Clean Shampoo 8oz $12

The shampoo has a very clean light citrus scent. This is an all natural
sulfate free shampoo that strips the hair of all product build up to
prepare it for the application of the other Kinky Curly products. If
this is your first time using these products please do not skip this
step. While it will get my hair very clean it does not leave my hair
feeling overly stripped. I do always follow up with a rinse out
conditioner. I have lots of different conditioners I use, it really just depends on my mood and what scents I wanna smell for that day.(stay tuned for lots of conditioner reviews)

Kinky Curly Knot Today 8oz $12

This can be used as a rinse out conditioner or a leave in. The scent is
very light and pleasant. The company suggests it as a leave in
conditioner for thick hair. I use this product as a leave in
conditioner. It has amazing slip and makes detangling your hair a
breeze. This product does have to be applied to soaking wet hair. After
I rinse my regular conditioner out I then apply the Knot Today and
shake my head "no" vigorously while still in the shower. (this step
helps define your curls. Trust me it works) . This is hands down my
favorite leave in conditioner.

Kinky Curly Curling Custard 8oz 16.99 16oz $29.99

This is hands down the best curl defining gel I have ever used, if you
saw my product junkie post you know I have tried just about everything.
The consistency is that of well mucus to be honest and the smell is a very light sort of vanilla smell. When I get out of the shower with the Knot Today still in my hair and
my hair still soaking wet I section my hair into 6 sections and secure
each section with a clip. I take my hair down one section at a time and
shake the section and then rake a small amount of Curling Custard in my
hair with my fingers. I shake my head vigorously after each section.
When I have finished applying the product to my entire head I do one
last head shake and then put in my hair accessory of the day (Goody
head bands are my favorite) and I'm done with my hair. All in all from
the time I get out of the shower it takes me about 10 minutes to apply
and shake. I always let my hair air dry. Usually by the time I get to
work my hair is mostly dry. I usually have to do this process every 3
days. This is another plus I have never been able to get 3 day+ hair with any other product.

Kinky Curly Spiral Spritz 8oz $12

This product is perfect for those with a much looser curl pattern or to
refresh second or third day hair. I use it as a refresher. It has a
very nice light lavender spa like smell and a light gel texture. On the
second or third day I wet my hair with water from a spray bottle and
then spray the Spiral Spritz into my hand and scrunch through my hair,
I then seal with a little coconut oil and I'm done. This also makes my
hair feel really soft and controls the frizz for the day.

Kinky Curly Gloss Pomade 2oz $10

This product has a light citrus smell. The pomade is  great to scrunch
out the crunch once you hair is fully dry. A little goes a long way so
I rub a very small amount in the palm of my hands and scrunch in my
hair. This is also great to use on second day hair also. It leaves my hair feel very soft and moisturized.

Kinky Curly is the only line that I love each and every product in the
line. Anytime a new or aspiring natural wants a product recommendation
I always steer them to Kinky Curly Products. These are absolute no fail
products for me. When I use these products I get countless compliments and questions about what products I use. And that's what Nu today.

My results using the Kinky Curly Line. Hair styled in a puff with bangs using a doubled up Goody Band

My Transition to Natural Hair

Like many African American women I wore my hair relaxed the majority if my life. According to my mother she began taking me to the salon to get relaxers when I was about 6 years old. I did not have much choice in the matter. As a result I learned relaxing my hair was as much apart of life as showering or a trip to the dentist. It was just something that had to be done. As I grew older I became increasingly interested in what my true hair texture looked like. In 2002 without much knowledge of natural hair or how to take care of it I walked into a local beauty college and asked them to cut off all the relaxer. The student looked confused, so I reassured her I knew what i wanted. I walked out feeling powerful and courageous with my newly cropped do. The excitement over my 2 inch TWA soon faded as the shock set in that my hair was gone and I had no idea what to do with my tiny curls. After about 8 months and lots of bad hair days I went back to "the creamy crack" as its called. After more years of growth and breakage I knew I needed to do something different. Then I saw Chris Rock's documentary Good Hair and i knew it was just a matter of time before i was rocking my God given curls again. This time i decided I would be smart. Information is the most powerful tool for a successful transition to natural hair. I immersed myself in books, blogs and YouTube videos all geared toward natural hair. February 2,2011 was my last relaxer. In the beginning not much was different. I continued to do roller sets and flat iron my mid back length hair. In April 2011 I got a mini chop of about 5 inches off the back, but my hair was still resting on my shoulders so there was not too much of a change. By June the two textures were making it increasingly difficult to continue to style my hair I'm the same ways and i went straight to YouTube. I wore transitional hair style throughout the summer and took the chance to really learn my hair. In the beginning I set out to be a long transitioner wanting to do my big chop in Summer 2012. LOL As you can see I did not make it. On Aug 2, 2011 I kept my appointment (after backing out the first time) and got my Big Chop done. I am now coming up on 1 year post relaxer and 6 moths post big chop and I have not regretted a single day. This is an awesome journey of self discovery that I would not change for anything.

What is a Product Junkie?

Hello my name is Naturally Nu and I'm a product junkie. The first step is to admit you have a problem.  So what is a product junkie? Someone who loves products and buys products even if they do not need them. As you can see from the picture I love products. I have tons of sweet smelling things that promise to do wonders for my hair. Now before I get into how I have accumulated such a stock pile of products let me tell you my weakness.... There are three things that when you combine them make me powerless to say no to a product. 1. A great smell. 2. Cute packaging. 3. A sale or free item with purchase. When you put all that together its a done deal I'm gonna have to get it. Now that you understand that let's talk about the things you see on the table. I have many products that do pretty much the same thing but they have different scents. I love variety so at any given time I may have 4 different conditioners in My shower and I may love them all. I also love trying different products and seeing how they will work with my hair. Now in my defense much of what I have now is from huge haul purchases made during Black Friday deals. I was like a kid in a candy store. I did put myself on punishment from purchasing new product for a while. LOL yeah right. I admit I have already placed 3 more online orders and made a trip to the beauty supply store. The great news is I can do product reviews on everything and maybe save you guys some money and time. Stay tuned for those reviews

An Introduction

Hello, I'm Naturally Nu. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.  This is my very first post ;D I have been wanting to start a Blog for some time now. Actually since I first began my natural hair journey.  I get tons of questions all the time about what products I use and how I style my hair and it just goes on and on. And while I love to share information with my fellow naturals there are times I feel like a broken record. So I thought it would be great to put all that information on a blog and people could read all about it.  I also want to chronical my journey so I can see the changes over time. So while the majority of this Blog will be dedicated to natural hair and natural hair products I am sure I will go on rants of all kinds.  I am very excited to share my lil bit of knowledge with all of you.  Look for lots of products reviews coming very soon. Yes I am a product junkie. Stay tuned
